Who We Are

Our Team

Henry P. Arnaudo, AIA

Henry P. Arnaudo, the founder and president of HPA Design, has spent his entire professional career working in architecture, which is not surprising, given that he knew from the time that he was in eighth grade that he wanted to be architect and be involved in the construction industry.

It was Henry’s love of architecture, his passion for “designing something that’s going to be built,” as he puts it, that gave him the determination to complete his degree. Over the course of eight years, Henry attended school in the evenings and on weekends while working full-time at various architectural firms in the Boston area, all while raising a family with his wife, Loretta. He founded HPA Design shortly after graduating in 1990.

Since then, HPA Design has grown from a home-based, one-person office into one of the most respected Boston-area architecture firms, with a team of architects who hold decades of combined experience in designing projects in and around New England.

Henry is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s operation including new client development and the continued successful relationships with current clients. On a day to day basis Henry oversees the entire process to insure that quality is maintained on all projects throughout all phases. Henry is also responsible for coordinating projects with various groups and municipalities including federal and local housing authorities, building and fire departments, zoning and planning boards, historical and conservation commissions and consulting engineers to ensure that each of the firm’s designs are compliant with zoning laws and completed exactly as planned for our clients.

As the company has grown, Henry recalls winning HPA Design’s first Prism Award as a pivotal moment in the firm’s history. “We had photographed the project ourselves, and sent the photos in with the date stamp on them because I didn’t know how to turn it off on the camera,” he recalls. Although Henry and Loretta, and other members of the team, initially considered skipping the banquet, a last-minute decision to attend proved fruitful when they were presented with the Gold Award for the best home with a value of more than $1 million.

HPA Design has since won nearly two dozen Prism Awards, for a wide range of projects including single-family homes, multi-unit communities, commercial buildings, and historic restorations. HPA Design’s work was also recognized upon receiving the 2015 Boston Preservation Achievement Award for the (Walgreens – Downtown Crossing) project.

When not at the firm or visiting job sites, Henry enjoys working on building projects at home – what he calls his “test runs” – and spending time with Loretta, their three now-grown children, and their “crazy rescue dog.” He is an avid sports fan and skier, often hitting the slopes in Killington and Stratton, VT throughout the winter.

Henry earned his Architectural Degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He is a Registered Architect, a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Boston Society of Architects and has sat on the board of directors at the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston.

F. Paul Frederick, AIA

Paul Frederick is a registered architect with nearly 35 years of diversified architectural, engineering and construction experience. Throughout his career and prior to joining HPA in 2004, Paul worked at a number of small and large architectural, engineering and design/build firms in and around the Boston area. During this time he accumulated an impressive project resume consisting mainly of commercial, office, retail and mixed use projects along with food service/hospitality and multi-unit residential developments.

Paul joined HPA Design in 2004. As Vice President at the firm, Paul is involved in all managerial aspects of the firm, including marketing, client procurement and relations, project scheduling and consultant contracting. From a project standpoint Paul is unambiguously accountable to the client for the complete success of their project. This includes project management, programming and design, coordination with local, state and federal agencies, building, energy and accessibility regulation compliance, technical detailing, construction document preparation, engineering consultant coordination and finally, construction control. Overall Paul is directly responsible for the execution and successful completion of all commercial and multiunit residential projects at HPA Design.

From a practical standpoint Paul applies both his formal education and practical experience in architecture, engineering and construction, to all his projects. By combining the architect’s creativity, the engineer’s analytical approach and contractor’s technical know-how, Paul is able to understand, address and balance all three components from design inception through construction completion.

Paul attended Roger Williams University where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, as well as an Associate Degree of Civil Engineering Technology. He studied architecture at the University of Venice, one of Italy’s first and most prestigious school of architecture. Paul is a registered architect in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects and NCARB certified.

Loretta Arnaudo

As Office Administrator at HPA Design, Loretta handles all of the firm’s financial work in addition to managing the company human resources duties, such as overseeing employee relations, compensation, and benefit administration. She also responds to inquiries from prospective clients, manages the firm’s database, and assists office staff with production printing.

Prior to joining Henry, her husband and the founder and president of HPA Design, in 1997, Loretta worked as an administrative assistant in the marketing department at Bay State Gas in Westboro, and in accounting positions at both Bay State Gas and Deloitte & Touche, a financial consulting firm in Boston.

As HPA Design grew, Loretta decided to begin working alongside Henry.

“Henry was doing too much at the office while I was doing the books at home,” she explains. “I started working at the office within six months of the birth of our third child.”

The schedule flexibility allowed by working with Henry was also a consideration when Loretta started at the office.

“It was really important when the kids were younger. I never missed a hockey game,” she says, noting that she also enjoys being a part of the family business. “I like building something with Henry. He’s so passionate about it!”

With their children now all in their 20s, Loretta shares Henry’s love of taking on projects at home. When not at the office or working on their home, Loretta can be found at the beach or spending time with her family.

“Spending time with family; that’s the most important thing,” she says.

Dean E. Yeaton

Senior Designer / Illustrator

Dean joined HPA Design in 1999. While taking a CAD (computer-aided design) class at a local high school in 1999, Dean began sending out his résumé in hopes of attaining a position that would allow him to put his new skills to use. He sent one to Henry P. Arnaudo, the founder and president of HPA Design, who called him the next day and offered him a position. Dean started with the firm immediately and has remained here ever since.

Like Henry, Dean began pursuing a career in architecture at an early age.

“In high school I took a technical drawing class and I really enjoyed it; I enjoyed the artistry of it,” he explains, adding, “I like seeing the way the drawings look when they are finished.”

Prior to joining HPA Design, Dean worked for many years at Philip S. Winsor, Architect, Ltd., an architecture firm in Walpole, as a designer and draftsman.

Now, as Senior Architectural Designer, Illustrator and Job Captain, Dean has worked on various residential and small commercial commissions from graphic documents of existing structures and conditions, design development, all the way through to construction documents. He is able to ensure a seamless process from the design phase of a project through its completion. His attention to details makes his formal presentation renderings and illustrations in various mediums a must for formal and client-based presentations, making the visualization of the final result of the project a reality to potential buyers.

He holds an Associate Degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology and a Certificate of Advanced Architectural Rendering from Boston Architectural College, where he continues pursuing his education with courses in design, residential design, rendering, and illustration. He is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects and the American Society of Architectural Illustrators.

Outside of HPA Design, you can usually find Dean at a soccer field watching his children play.
